Indagini archeometriche condotte tra 2021 e 2022 a Perugia, all’interno dell’Ipogeo dei Volumni, sulle pitture della cosiddetta "porta dell’Ade", realizzate sulla cassa dell’urna di Arnth Velimnas e ormai quasi del tutto illeggibili, hanno consentito una migliore lettura dei personaggi raffigurati, noti fino ad oggi soltanto attraverso la modesta documentazione grafica eseguita al momento della scoperta. Le indagini sono state anche l’occasione per riesaminare alcuni aspetti legati alla storia dell’Ipogeo e alle vicende della famiglia Velimna.
Archaeometric examinations conducted in the Hypogeum of the Volumni (2021 and 2022) of the paintings of the so-called Gate to the Underworld on the front of Arnth Velimnas’s urn have allowed a better reading of the figures depicted. Now almost completely unreadable, their image has otherwise been known only through the modest graphic documentation executed at the time of discovery. The investigations also provided the opportunity to re-examine aspects of the history of the Hypogeum and the Velimna family.
