Giorgio Bretschneider was born in 1920 in Rome, where he lived during all of his life, except for the years of the war.
In 1947 he took over from his father, Max Bretschneider, and specialized in the Greek and Roman period, without taking in consideration other periods so as to seize the ancient world's aspects as a whole. Since the beginning (1948) he entered many deals as a publisher with relevant international authors.

MAX BRETSCHNEIDER (1872 - 1950)

GIORGIO BRETSCHNEIDER (1920 - 1996)

He was the first in Italy who understood the importance of reprints and he was therefore the first who started a big editorial project of reprints.
In 1973 he left the company and started operating on his own. Tenacity, inner strength and a firm belief in human dignity were characteristic signs of his personality.

Today, Giorgio Bretschneider, managed by his son Boris Bretschneider, continues its founder's activity operating in the field of classical antiquity.
It publishes academic studies,
and Journals such as Archaeologica", "Monumenti Antichi", "Rivista di Archeologia", "Studi Etruschi", "Kokalos".
